OGDENSBURG, New York (WWNY) - It’s Ogdensburg City Manager Fonda Chronis’s second time crafting the city budget.
“The budget really tells the community what the priorities are for local government.”
For Chronis, those priorities include moving away from deficit spending and lowering the city’s constitutional tax limit, that’s the amount municipalities can raise property taxes a year, and Chronis says Ogdensburg has been close to the limit for a while.
“This recommended budget brings it down to 82 percent, so the trend is better, but if you look at the average of all other New York state cities, that number is closer to 62 percent,” he said.
