Former Mets general manager Jim Duquette sees a clear path to keeping Pete Alonso — but they better act fast.

On SNY’s “Baseball Night in New York” on Monday, Duquette outlined what it would take to get Alonso back in Orange and Blue. He also warned the Mets: Don’t prolong negotiations if you can help it.

“If the AAV was close to Vladimir Guerrero (Jr.), I think that the Mets can get him,” Duquette said, via X/Twitter . “So there are a lot of reasons there. I do think holding the line would be good. The other aspect of that is, man, you don’t want this thing to go out and drag out like it did last year. It was just awful. And you run out of options, too.
