Oklahoma leads the nation when it comes to low voter turnout for presidential elections.
And in local elections, sometimes only a handful of voters show up to cast ballots.
Now there is a hope that a new law, Senate Bill 652, will improve voter turnout.
The Rogers County Election Board was closed on Monday, but election workers were inside getting ready for a school bond election on Tuesday.
Low Expectations
Rogers County has about 86% of its eligible voters registered. Election Board Secretary Julie Dermody says she’s proud of her community, until it comes to smaller and local elections. When it comes to local school bond elections, the expectation is very low.
