At least two of South Carolina’s metropolitan airports are declining to show travelers a Homeland Security video in which Secretary Kristi Noem blames Democrats in Congress for the ongoing federal government shutdown that is now rolling into its third week.
At Columbia Metropolitan Airport, officials determined Noem’s partisan message crossed a political line and likely violates federal law.
At Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, a spokeswoman said they are keeping security checkpoint screens focused on travel guidance rather than showing Noem’s video so that “travelers receive the most relevant information.”
But along the coast in Charleston and Myrtle Beach, airport leaders said they are powerless to intervene, with no authority to turn off the video screens.
