BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A Bridgeport man was arrested for violently assaulting a teenage girl on her way to school Tuesday morning, according to the city's police department.

Cordero Javier Greaves, 28, of Bridgeport, is facing charges of sexual assault in the first degree, risk of injury to a minor, illegal sexual contact with a person under 16 years of age, unlawful restraint in the first degree and threatening in the second degree.

Special Victims Unit detectives searched for Greaves throughout the morning with the help of task force officers and patrol officers. The School Resource Unit also assisted in the investigation.

Police said they took Greaves into custody at his home at 1 p.m. The arrest happened near where the sexual assault occurred in the city on Railroad Avenue.
