A boy in seventh grade at Coronado Middle School stabbed a female seventh grader Tuesday, leaving the victim hospitalized, according to Coronado police.

Police say the assailant used a pocket knife to stab the girl twice in the school’s library during a class break, prompting officers to respond to the campus at around 10:20 a.m.

The boy was arrested, while the girl was taken to a hospital for treatment of her unspecified injuries, according to police.

“Due to the ages of the individuals involved, no further identifying information will be released at this time,” the Coronado Police Department said in a statement.
