SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Tuesday was Day 14 of the federal government shutdown, meaning hundreds of thousands of employees are not getting paid, and many still have to work.

The effects of the shutdown are very present here in South Dakota, from out west in Mt. Rushmore to the east in Washington, DC, where our National Guard troops are stationed. The questions around pay and job stability are mounting.

Many employees in the National Park Service at Mt. Rushmore who do tours or maintenance are not working right now.

Essential employees, such as law enforcement at the park, are not getting paid.

“Sooner or later, (Congressional) Senate Democrats will realize that they’re stuck on stupid and they need to quit holding America hostage to promote their agenda,” Rhoden said.
