Statistically, too many Black teenagers are incarcerated, and quite often due to guns. I am heartened to learn of Cuyahoga County Juvenile judges finding a way to improve the judicial process (“ Gun monitoring program shows early success ,“ Oct. 12). Taking baby steps is fine; allowing for program-wide review as well as the teen’s individual responsibility is good.

I also fully endorse Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley’s message that the safety of our community must be considered and maintained. What would an unsafe community be like? We need to be safe. I think we can find a way to achieve community safety and employ just, age-appropriate, and loving solutions for teenage children found with guns.
