Just a year after he was found not criminally responsible for the fatal stabbing of law firm receptionist Julia Ferguson in 2021, her killer has been granted increased freedom — over the objections of the Attorney General’s Office and her family and friends.

At his annual Ontario Review Board hearing, the panel found Osman Osman suffers from schizophrenia , becomes psychotic when he stops taking his medication and continues to pose a “significant threat” to the community. Yet it agreed with his lawyer and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health that Osman’s expanded privileges for the coming year should include community living in supervised housing.

He hasn’t even had unsupervised passes out of the hospital yet.
