TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — In the wake of a powerful storm that tore through Tempe, leaving widespread damage and dozens of families displaced, the American Red Cross has opened an emergency shelter for the East Valley Community.

The shelter is set up at the Escalante Multi-Generational Center on Orange Street, just east of River Drive and north of Apache Boulevard.

“When we are asked to go, we go,” said Pat Simmons with the Red Cross.

So far, a few people have come to the shelter seeking resources, but Red Cross officials expect dozens more to go through the doors throughout the coming days.
