MENTOR, Ohio — A Cleveland man will spend up to 10 and a half years in prison for his role in a Lake County overdose death last year, officials said.

Layshawn M. McKinney, 35, was sentenced Oct. 6 in Lake County Common Pleas Court after pleading guilty to corrupting another with drugs and trafficking in drugs, court records show.

Police said McKinney sold drugs that led to a fatal overdose on April 21, 2024. The Mentor Police Department led the investigation.

Judge Vincent Culotta sentenced McKinney to a minimum of seven years and up to 10 and a half years in prison. He will serve his time at the Lorain Correctional Institution in Grafton and will be supervised for up to three years after his release.
