PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - A 19-year-old from Hillsboro charged with assaulting a federal officer appeared in court Tuesday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Court documents show that Samuel A. Westcott was detained on Sunday night during a protest outside the Portland ICE facility.

Westcott allegedly “physically resisted” officers’ attempts to clear a path for cars exiting the building, kicking a federal officer “several times” as she was being detained.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, felony assault of a federal officer is punishable by up to eight years in prison.

Westcott was conditionally released following Tuesday’s proceedings.
