A police officer was forced to draw his weapon on an aggressive dog at a Queensland property where a meter reader was mauled to death, an inquest has heard.

Kane Minion, 42, was working for Energy Queensland in December 2022 when he was attacked by two dogs at a Greenbank property in Logan, south of Brisbane.

An inquest is being held on the Gold Coast into the circumstances of his death.

The Queensland Coroners Court has heard that the owners of the property on Ison Road were not at home at the time Mr Minion was killed and had left their teenage children in charge of restraining the dogs ahead of their meter being read.

A bandog bull-mastiff cross named Dozer and a bull-mastiff Rhodesian ridgeback cross named Scooby were euthanased following the attack on Mr Minion.
