ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Roanoke City Council’s surprise announcement of a possible casino at the Berglund Center has left people with mixed reactions.
“A casino would not be be anywhere near the top of my list of what could help this community,” one Roanoke resident said.
While everyone may not be ready to bet it all, Vice Mayor Terry McGuire believes a casino could bring in revenue the city needs.
“I don’t think that an entertainment complex that includes some kind of betting or casino facility is by itself gonna be the answer to our economic problems in the city,” McGuire said. “But I do think that it could be a piece of it and bring in a lot of much-needed revenue that would allow us, you know, to kind of have a little more to spend in other places.”
