TEMPLE, Texas — A fire at an apartment complex in Temple saw multiple residents evacuate the building on the evening of Tuesday, Oct. 14.

6 News was on scene at the 4 Hundred Apartments near Temple College, speaking with residents who evacuated their apartments.

Neighbors told 6 News they believe the fire ignited around 8 p.m., filling the building with smoke.

Temple Fire & Rescue, the Temple Police Department and Temple EMS all responded to the scene. An investigation into the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage is reportedly underway.

Phillip Maryfield, a resident of the complex, said the fire started in his building

"I heard a lot of people outside screaming, I heard dogs barking so I just opened my door and it was a lot of smoke," Maryfield told 6 News. "I couldn’t see
