Clashes Erupt Again Between Pakistan and Afghan Taliban

Intense fighting erupted on Tuesday night between Pakistani security forces and the Afghan Taliban in the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. State media reported that the Afghan Taliban, along with militants referred to as Fitna al-Khawarij, opened fire first, prompting a strong response from the Pakistani Army. According to PTV News, the Pakistani forces retaliated with full force, damaging several Afghan tanks and posts.

The conflict began when Afghan troops and Pakistani Taliban fighters attacked a border post. Pakistani forces reportedly destroyed a major training camp used by the Pakistani Taliban during the exchange. Following the clash, Taliban fighters were said to have fled their positions.

The Foreign Office in Islamabad stated that Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch briefed resident ambassadors about the situation, emphasizing Pakistan's commitment to protecting its territorial integrity. Over the weekend, Afghan forces allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on Pakistani border posts, resulting in the deaths of 23 Pakistani soldiers, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). In response, Pakistan claimed to have killed over 200 Taliban and affiliated militants.

Tensions have escalated, with Kabul accusing Pakistan of conducting airstrikes on Afghan territory, a claim that Islamabad has not confirmed. Pakistan has consistently urged the Taliban government to prevent the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from operating from Afghan soil, while Kabul denies these allegations, asserting that Afghan territory is not used against any neighbouring country. The situation remains volatile as both sides continue to exchange accusations and engage in military actions.
