A mob assaulted a policeman and tore his uniform in protest against the alleged negligence death of a two-month-old in the state-run Egra Sub-Divisional Hospital in East Midnapore on Tuesday.

Incident rocked the hospital complex and with the intervention of a huge police force the situation was brought under control later this afternoon.

Locals said that Tapan Pradhan, a resident of Alanggiri in the Egra area, had brought his baby to the hospital about seven days ago.

Today, the baby was declared dead by doctors, who had been attending to the infant for the past one week.

The deceased’s parents and their relatives alleged that negligence in treatment caused the infant’s death.
