PHOENIX — A hiker and a dog he found were helped down a trail by Glendale and Phoenix firefighters after lighting issues prevented them from descending alone, officials with the Phoenix Fire Department said.

Crews with Glendale and Phoenix responded to the Shadow Mountain Preserve around 7:30 p.m. for reports of a lost dog and hiker. The hiker said he found the dog while on Shadow Mountain with no owners present. Due to lighting issues, the hiker and dog were unable to descend the mountain, officials said.

"With the assistance of firefighters, the hiker and the dog were safely walked down the trail and assessed," a statement from the Phoenix Fire Department said. "The owners of the dog were reunited."

No injuries were reported.
