BLUFF CITY, Tenn. – Sullivan East volleyball player Makayla Moore should have been nervous.
Before a large and loud crowd at the Dyer Dome, the 6-foot-1 hitter was playing in the Region 1-AA championship match for the first time.
There was one other pressure point.
Moore is just a freshman.
“This was a big match, and I just wanted to win,” Moore said.
Nerves or not, Moore delivered 20 kills and eight digs on Tuesday as the Sullivan East Patriots took a 24-26, 21-25, 25-20, 25-10, 15-9 decision over the Chuckey-Doak Black Knights.
It was first regional title for East since 2021. The Patriots (21-15) will host Alcoa on Thursday in a TSSAA Class sectional match on Thursday, while C-D (15-7) must travel to Seymour. East last qualified for the sectional in 2021.
