A passerby in Pembroke Pines, Florida, was moved by the sight of a neglected dog roaming near a school.
The twelve-year-old dog, later named Clara, was in terrible shape. She was emaciated and dehydrated, her fur tangled and crawling with fleas and worms.
Clara’s eyes were swollen, and she was completely blind. An injury made walking difficult.
The concerned individual contacted the Pembroke Pines Police Department. Officers arrived and scanned Clara’s microchip, hoping to identify her owner.

Microchip Leads Police To An Unexpected Response
The microchip revealed Clara belonged to a family in Fort Lauderdale. Police reached out, expecting relief and gratitude. Instead, they were met with indifference.
