The Erie City Revitalization & Improvement Zone or CRIZ Authority had a concern as this year began.

Members knew the enormous potential of the program, which allows Erie to divert increases in certain taxes collected inside designated areas of the city and use that money for capital investments.

But Brian Polito, who was hired as executive director in February, said they worried there wouldn't be enough shovel-ready projects on which to spend $15 million a year generated by the CRIZ .
