Kyra Hopper and her two children, a seven-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl, have been living in a cramped hotel room in Brisbane for more than six months.

They are among 260 families currently living in hotels as emergency accommodation across the city.

"The last month or two has honestly been so hard," Ms Hopper said.

" [The children] have been on air mattresses. "

Families facing homelessness

Single mum Jasmine Sloane has been homeless since her landlord put up the rent a month ago. She's part of a disturbing new trend in Queensland's housing crisis.

Ms Hopper said she had always worked, and until recently had a "very good job" working in the mines, and then in the head office on the Gold Coast.
