Here we go again. Hawaii is in the midst of another health care workers’ strike — this one when about 2,300 Kaiser Permanente employees here walked off the job Tuesday morning. It’s part of a five-day national strike involving more than 45,000 unionized health workers, rallying for better wages and staffing.
Those core issues were what spurred nurses at Kapiolani Medical Center to strike last year; and in January, a threatened strike by nurses at Queen’s Medical Center was averted when terms were reached. On behalf of staffers and patients alike, let’s hope a Kaiser settlement comes soon.
