NEW DELHI: India’s campaign to reach the AFC Asian Cup 2027 came crashing down tonight as Singapore defeated the Blue Tigers 2–1 in a heart-wrenching match at the Fatorda Stadium, eliminating India from qualification contention.

India appeared to be in control early on, when Lallianzuala Chhangte struck in the 14th minute with a powerful left-footed effort to give the hosts the lead. The stadium erupted, optimism returned, and for long periods, India looked the superior side, dominating possession and pressuring Singapore’s defense.

However, Singapore showed resilience and composure, and just before halftime, Song Ui-young drew them level. The equaliser came as a dagger to Indian hopes: a well-timed run into the box, with deft movement to evade defenders, and he slotted past the goalkeep
