HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA)— A street in Hernando County will be renamed to Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway.
During a Hernando County Commission meeting on Tuesday, commissioners voted 5-0 in favor of renaming the street, Hernando County Commissioner Steve Champion said.
"Thanks to all of the commissioners who all voted 5-0 to make this happen!!" Champion said in a post on Facebook.
The section of California Street between Spring Hill Drive and Powell Road, which is in front of Nature Coast High, will be renamed in memory of Charlie Kirk.
Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist, was shot and killed at a Utah College event on September 10.
President Donald Trump awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Tuesday, on what would have been his 32nd Birthday.
