VHS mourns loss of viral "Swimming Cat"

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — The Vanderburgh Humane Society is mourning the loss of one of their most beloved and famous felines.

Officials say Ty, also known as Thicken Nugget, was a large orange cat who captured hearts across the world.

VHS says Ty became an internet sensation after learning to swim as part of a weight-loss program.

In a heartfelt message, the shelter shared, "We heartbreakingly and unexpectedly lost our sweet, iconic swimming boy, Thicken Nugget. We are heartbroken Ty didn't get the long life we worked so hard for him to have, but we are extremely grateful for the time we got with him."

Ty was known for his gentle nature, love of shoes, and stroller rides.
