LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Energy waste reduction programs are helping Michigan consumers save money on their utility bills, according to a new report from the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) .

These efforts were designed to increase efficiency in our state, and are showing results.

An estimated $1.4 billion in cost savings for Michigan utility customers will be achieved over the next 12 years due to energy waste reduction efforts.

These include LED lightbulbs, winterizing Michigan Homes, and smart thermostats.

The money will be saved in both homes and businesses throughout the state.

Dan Scripps, a chair with the MPSC, knows that actively trying to reduce waste in a home will lower energy bills and lead to a more comfortable home.
