At lunch time, a line forms near the grill at the back of the Sunshine General Store, home to the “famous Sunshine Burger.” Since the 1940s, the general story has been a geographic and social center of Sunshine and Unity, unincorporated towns about 30 miles north of Washington in Montgomery County. Residents take pride in their namesake nosh, which often gets media attention — most recently on the Washingtonian magazine list of the “30 best burgers.”
