BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - There’s a new drug on the street that’s raising concern. It’s called green fentanyl, and it’s showing up across the Northshore and in New Orleans.
Now, there’s growing fear it could make its way to Baton Rouge.
“It’s a fight. It’s a fight every day because when we try to get ahead of it and now something like this happens, it’s almost as if you take two steps forward and now you go three steps backwards,” said Tonja Myles, who has spent more than 30 years fighting addiction as an anti-drug advocate.
This new form of fentanyl varies in shades of green, and its texture can mimic sidewalk chalk, gel, or even tar.
Myles said the uncertainty about how powerful it is compared to traditional fentanyl is alarming.
