We generally always rejoice in success as something to be celebrated, but not everyone is equally excited about someone else's happiness or success. This discomfort with one's success is referred to as “Tall Poppy Syndrome. ” It is called so because "tall poppies", those who rise above the rest in a field, tend to get "cut down" to size by others. In human behaviour, it is an inclination to critique, envy, or belittle individuals who stand head and shoulders above the rest.
