The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released the second list of candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls on Wednesday. The party has fielded 25-year-old folk and devotional singer Maithili Thakur, who joined the party on Tuesday, as its candidate from Alinagar constituency.

Winner of the prestigious 'Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar' of the Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA) in 2021, Thakur is known for her folk songs in Maithili and Bhojpuri. The renowned singer recently said she was inspired by the public life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and hence decided to join politics.
