When officers arrived, they saw a man running from the scene on Norwin Avenue. That man, later identified as Angel Ortega-Yanez, hit a cruiser with a hammer which caused the windshield to shatter.

He continued to flee but was taken into custody.

Authorities say Ortega-Yanez used the hammer and a pry bar to break into the front doors of the Aldi.

He then broke through an office window and stole two boxes of cash worth $800.

Following his arrest, the cash was recovered and returned to the store.
