In a bizarre case, police arrested a 24-year-old youth named Ankush Agrawal, son of a contractor from Rupra Road under Narla police limits in Kalahandi district, for impersonating as a Maoist to extort money from his father, official sources said on Wednesday.

According to police sources, Ankush crafted a threatening letter in the name of Maoists and left it inside his car on October 6, demanding Rs 35 lakh from his father Dinesh Agrawal, a local contractor. The letter warned that in case the money is not paid, the entire family would be eliminated.

The young man did not stop there — he allegedly sent a similar threat letter to his father's business associate to escalate the pressure.
