HOUSTON - A man allegedly shot his girlfriend before driving to a gas station and shooting himself, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez says.

The woman was airlifted to the hospital, and the man is dead.

What we know:

The initial shooting occurred in the roadway in the 2200 block of Mason Road on Wednesday morning.

According to Sheriff Gonzalez, the man was in a vehicle and allegedly shot his girlfriend in a separate vehicle.

The man then drove to a gas station at the Katy Freeway and Eldridge, where he apparently shot himself, the sheriff says.

The woman was taken to the hospital by Life Flight. The man died at the second scene.
