The ICAR–Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI), Sri Vijaya Puram, organized a Field Day on “Sea Safety Practices and Applications” at Teetop Village, Car Nicobar, as part of a DST-funded project on the Coastal Fisheries Information Hub.

The programme aimed to raise awareness and strengthen the capacity of local fishers on essential sea safety measures to ensure safer and more sustainable fishing operations in the islands.

As part of the training, practical demonstrations were conducted on the use of Global Positioning System (GPS), Distress Alert Transmitters (DAT), marine walkie-talkies, life jackets, and life buoys. Fishers were also taken on field trips in open sea conditions to experience the real-time applications
