(FOX40.COM) — Caltrans is advising drivers of required chain usage in certain areas of Northern California as winter weather hits the region.
For eastbound traffic from the Donner Lake Interchange to Truckee, chains are required for all vehicles with the exception of four-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all wheels.
For westbound traffic from the Donner Lake Interchange to 4.7 miles west of Kingvale, chains are required on all vehicles except those with snow tires on all four wheels, Caltrans said.
According to officials, it is required for all westbound trucks to stop at the brake check area 0.5 miles west of Nyack in an effort to reduce the risk of brake fires.
