The RSPB is calling on UK households with gardens to do three things to help save species that are disappearing.

Insect numbers are plummeting, which is having a direct impact on the number of birds flying across our skies.

Robins, blackbirds and sparrows particularly are being hit hard by the falling insect numbers.

On social media, the RSPB wrote: "Have all the insects gone? Insects play a vital role in our natural ecosystem, from being a food source for many animals to pollinating our crops and even helping to balance ecosystems.

"But due to a range of negative impacts such as climate change and pesticide use, some of our insects are starting to disappear. So what can we do to help?
