Alberta Health Services (AHS) is slimming down its corporate ranks, cutting hundreds of positions across several of its departments.

The health agency confirmed to Daily Hive that around 100 employees were laid off and roughly 300 vacant positions have been eliminated, primarily within corporate services such as IT, finance, human resources, and communications.

Together, the cuts make up about 0.4 per cent of its total workforce, AHS said.

AHS states that no existing front-line clinical roles are being cut, and there will be no direct impact on patient care.

“AHS is grateful for the contributions of all impacted employees and will support them and their teams in the weeks ahead,” the agency said in a statement.

AHS declined to comment further, calling it an “internal HR matter.”
