The Lancers are riding high right now.

Not only did the California Baptist University men’s soccer team defeat long-time rival Grand Canyon 1-0 at home on Sunday, but CBU has jumped to No. 45 in the NCAA Division I coaches’ poll, one of its highest rankings and currently one spot above Grand Canyon.

“An excellent performance and one we needed,” said head coach Coe Michaelson, now in his 10th year.

It was CBU’s first Western Athletic Conference win of the season, but even better, it was Grand Canyon’s first conference loss.

“The only disappointment is that we didn’t score more, because our play merited it,” Michaelson said.
