Democrats say Ohio shouldn't be extracting oil and natural gas from under Lake Erie or the 76 state parks.

House Bill 399 , introduced by state Reps. Tristan Rader, D-Lakewood, and Christine Cockley, D-Columbus, would prohibit fracking or drilling under Lake Erie or any state park. The bill has little shot of moving forward in the GOP-controlled Legislature, which recently green-lighted fracking under state parks.

Ohio has long allowed fracking under state parks, but the process didn't move forward until a 2022 law jump-started the protocol. Now, Ohio allows fracking under Salt Fork State Park, a few wildlife areas and Ohio Department of Transportation property.
