UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s season has been nothing short of disastrous, going from the No. 2 team in the AP preseason poll to now being unranked after three consecutive losses to then-No. 3 Oregon, UCLA and now Northwestern.

But nothing has spelled out the end of Penn State’s season more than the combination of losing both coach James Franklin and Drew Allar just hours apart.

After being carted off the field with an ankle injury with tears in his eyes, Allar’s game on Saturday was the last one he will ever play in his college career. The very next day, Franklin was fired as athletic director Pat Kraft deemed the situation one that left him “no choice” but an “extremely difficult” one nonetheless.
