Stellantis has recalled over 298,000 Dodge Dart vehicles due to a gear shift issue that could increase the risk of crashes, the car manufacturer announced.
The recall includes 298,439 2013-2016 Dodge Dart cars, according to an announcement on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website.
Stellantis, which owns Chrysler, made the recall announcement on Thursday, Oct. 9.
Drivers may have issues shifting gears due to a transmission shift cable failure, the car manufacturer said. This shift cable failure can cause the vehicle to move in an "unintended direction," potentially leading to crashes or hurting others outside the car, according to the recall notice.
The affected vehicles were manufactured between February 2012 and October 2016, according to the major automaker. As of Sept. 24, the company has not received reports of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.
Current issue related to past recall
Stellantis said that the issue is related to the recall No. 19V293000 from April 2019.
The previous recall was issued due to a shifter cable that detached from the transmission, effectively preventing some vehicles from switching gears and allowing the vehicles to roll away. At the time, the automaker said that it would replace the transmission side shifter cable bushing free of charge.
In November 2024, the NHTSA announced an increase in owners reporting issues after the previous remedy was implemented. In June 2025, Stellantis began investigating 2013-2016 Dodge Dart vehicles that underwent the recall remedy and later experienced a disconnected transmission shift cable issue.
Stellantis confirmed in October that an issue was present after the previous remedy, which led to the car manufacturer subsequently issuing the current recall, 25V674000.
According to Stellantis, it is still developing a remedy, but it will notify dealers on Oct. 16 and then impacted owners between Nov. 6 and Nov. 13.
