A Scottish jury has found a man guilty of killing his Edmontonian girlfriend in the Shetland Islands of Scotland, with a judge ruling a minimum sentence of 25 years.

41-year-old Aren Pearson was found guilty of assault and murder in the death of 24-year-old Claire Leveque, who was originally from Westlock but had been living and working in Edmonton.

In the United Kingdom, a murder conviction imposes a mandatory life sentence. Five other charges were dropped.
