BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE) — Bristol firefighters had an early start this morning, responding to a hazmat incident on Old Ferry Rd.

Just before 2 a.m., firefighters were called to a report of a chemical odor in a building.

Firefighters found overheated forklift batteries were the culprit.

Bristol FD says the batteries were charging at the time and began releasing an irritant and carbon monoxide.

The power was disconnected and the building was aired out.

There’s no word of any injuries.
