HYDE PARK – An early morning fire at a student housing building displaced several students at the Culinary Institute of America on Wednesday morning. An automatic fire alarm sounded at Metz Hall at 7:59 a.m., prompting the Roosevelt Fire Department and a ladder truck from the Fairview Fire Department to respond to the campus for investigation. A person in the building called 911 to report a heavy smoke condition on the second floor of Metz Hall, turning the automatic alarm into a full first alarm.

Two Roosevelt captains arrived at 8:04 a.m. and reported fire coming from a dryer vent on the second floor. Additional firefighters from the Pleasant Valley and City of Poughkeepsie Fire Departments were dispatched to assist in firefighting operations at the dormitory, which houses 375 studen
