A total of five locations, all within half a mile of each other, made reports of smelling a mysterious odor in Maitland.

An investigation took place at several addresses along State Route 414 and Maitland Boulevard after they reported a propane-like smell.

Maitland Fire Rescue worked alongside multiple other local agencies to clear the scenes.

The locations investigated include Orangewood Christian School, Lake Sybelia Elementary, Shalom Orlando (JCC), and two medical office buildings. At the schools, students were briefly evacuated and later allowed to return.

Orange County Public Schools says it evacuated after the odor of gas was identified in the neighborhood, but students and staff returned to the building after receiving the all-clear.

The source of the smell remains undetermine
