The Punjab Police has arrested Navneet Chaturvedi, national president of the Janata Party, in connection with a forgery case tied to his Rajya Sabha bypoll nomination in Punjab. The arrest marks a dramatic escalation in a contest that had already drawn considerable attention because of its unusual and contentious features.

Armed with the warrants, a team of Ropar Police attempted to take Chaturvedi into custody in Chandigarh, where he was being held under the protection of Chandigarh Police.
