The Downtown Dover Partnership joined city, county and state leaders to celebrate the groundbreaking for the downtown mobility center and parking garage on Oct. 14.

The $20 million project is north of Loockerman Street, between Governors Avenue and Bradford Street.

The center will provide 325 parking spaces for residents and downtown businesses.

At the groundbreaking for the new downtown Dover mobility center and parking garage on Oct. 14, Mayor Robin Christiansen said the structure will finally solve a problem that’s existed at least since he was a kid.

He remembers shopping with his grandparents downtown at stores like J.C. Penney, Woolworth and Sears.
