Gov. Jeff Landry declared a moratorium Wednesday on new applications for carbon capture injection wells in Louisiana and wants state regulators to prioritize review of the more than 30 applications already before them.
Landry's order calls for companies to make more effort to seek out public and local government input on pending projects, tracking recent changes in state law and new internal policies from his current and former energy secretaries.
Landry also said the state Department of Conservation and Energy is creating this new priority list for existing carbon capture projects and companies will be required to take a number of steps before their projects can get on the list.
