OSKALOOSA, Iowa (KCRG) - A former Keokuk County Sheriff’s Deputy was sentenced for his role in a hayride crash that injured multiple kids.
A jury found David Heady guilty of 13 counts of child endangerment last month.
Heady was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison for the first two counts, the most serious counts. He was also given concurrent 5 years sentences for the remaining 11 counts.
The crash happened in October 2023 near What Cheer. The incident occurred when the driver, Daniel Brubaker, lost control of the truck on a gravel road, which caused the truck and trailer to go into a ditch.
Heady was in the passenger seat when the truck hit the ditch.
Prosecutors argued that even though he was not driving, Heady’s actions that night helped lead to the crash.
